I'm afraid that with such reaction to his third album D'Angelo is gonna lock himself up for the next twenty years. His concerns seem to have fallen on deaf ears. The reviewing brethren compete with each other in writing lengthy sentences and diligently conceal the fact that one of the tracks on this album is a grim reminder. White cops killing unarmed black guys out of primal fear. It's wrong to think that D'Angelo can solve the problem. Evolution will do it in a billion years when we all get to look like Miyazaki characters. Until then we need to be reminded from time to time that no matter what color our skin is, we're all red inside. "I Have a Dream" moment is in the past, nowadays it's hard to make an impact on people whose heads are littered with empty tweets and fakebook news. The booklet says, "No digital plug-ins of any kind were used in this recording… For best results, listen at maximum volume." D, while you were asleep people stopped buying CDs and started listening to the castrated sound of iTunes downloads. I haven't said a word about the music itself – it's a work of a genius.
